The Last Clog Maker in England

| Clog Making, Leather, Woodworking

Jeremy Atkinson is England’s last remaining clog maker using traditional craft skills. Lynwen and Dave from Artisan were intrigued, so we met up with him earlier this year at his small shop / workshop in Kington, deep in the West Country of England.

This first film is a profile piece about Jeremy. In addition we will also be putting up a series of “how to” videos very soon.

In the film Jeremy tells us that he has spent 30 years trying to resurrect the craft, but it is hard to make any living, and he asks “Is it valid to spend Government money on that? You expect to pay for the arts. Other countries pay for crafts; they pay people to continue doing these things… in order to keep that skill alive?

It’s a good question. Clog making is one of a long list of traditional crafts that are threatened with extinction.
