We are always on the look out for really inspiring videos about crafts. Today I found a great website Art Craft & More who had coincidentally also made some links to the Artisan site. What a superb website, making a great effort at the tough task of sifting out the very best from all of what is out there.
On their site I found a fantastic video, BillyKirk, which we feature today.
It is about two brothers who are leather craftsmen. The film focuses on their motivation as well as their relationship. It is really engaging, funny, inspiring, and from my own film maker perspective it is also a very well shot and constructed piece.
The main theme is one that I seem to think about a great deal these days. In the words of the film characters:
“We’ve been in this throw-away society for a while now… and I think also too that if you’re buying something that’s well made and it’s going to last, that maybe you’re going to save money in the end, rather than having to buy the same thing over and over again.”
My favourite line in the film:
Chris: “What is the smell of leather, the feel, texture and all of that, what does that do for you?”
Kirk: “I can’t smell it any more. I’ve been around it so much”
